These pages are an archive for the Florida UU Women and Religion chapter that dissolved in 2010. Continental UUW&R is maintaining the site and seeking news of UU women in Florida to include. Fortunately the NE Florida Cluster women continue the retreat tradition with an event each Spring. Watch the UU Women's Events list at right for info!
Please peruse the Conference and Retreat Guides written by Rev. Barbara Child and updated by the FLUUWR group. We think the Guides can serve as a good solid basis for your group to modify for their own, and we invite you to do so! Please send any comments to firstname.lastname@example.org. Blessed Be!
The Florida District Unitarian-Universalist Women & Religion Committee strives to:
- provide resources and a network for women to affirm spirituality,
- increase self esteem, and empower action for change;
- transform the "power over" model of relating to a "power with" model;
- assist the congregations and societies in the District to root out all forms of domination and oppression;
- provide opportunities for women to grow spiritually and personally;
- explore the richness of our diversity,
- and support one another.
As of April, 2010, this web site was shut down. Florida UU Women and Religion has ceased to be an active group for the time being.
Maybe a few years up the line a new group of women will feel the need and find the time and energy to rebirth the group.
For now, some have had health challenges, some have passed on, and too many have found that Spirit has led them in other directions.
The web address has been handed on in trust to the Continental UU Women and Religion so that women who are seeking the company of others in good UU fellowship will find the resources that helped so many of us along the way.
and merry part,
and merry meet again.
6th Annual Florida Unitarian Universalist Women’s Retreat
April 8 -10, 2016
DaySpring Episcopal Conference Center - Ellenton Florida
As the theme suggests, we’ll be traveling in mind, heart, and spirit… discovering many paths to explore ourselves and the world to see how movement in this world is, itself, home. It’s an adventure that we’ll share through music, art, movement, poetry, meditation, and play.The retreat begins Friday at 5:00pm and ends Sunday at Noon.
DaySpring Conference Center is conveniently located off I-75 just north of Sarasota on Florida’s West Coast. The beautiful campus nestled under ancient oaks and located on a cove of the Manatee River offers a serene setting for our annual retreat. Take a look. http://Dayspring.dioswfl.org.
